Growing Roots and Branching Out – How TreeTown Murals Celebrates Our Community’s Diversity Through Art

You may not know Mary Thiefels, but I’m sure you know her art. You’ve
seen it on railroad overpasses, the back walls of downtown businesses, or
the hallways of your child’s school. As a mural artist and founder of TreeTown Murals, Mary has been commissioned to create murals in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Manchester, and Chelsea, and is currently in the planning stages of one for the City of Whitmore Lake. These projects all make perfect sense, as a key ingredient in Mary’s work is creating community.

Mural Adds Beauty for Patients

What once was a simple electrical box has been transformed into a welcome escape for patients, families and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Oakwood Annapolis Hospital.
 
This collaborative effort between Mary Thiefels of TreeTown Murals and staff members at Oakwood is a botanical scene titled ” The Calder-Moore Garden.”

Mary’s Marvelous Murals- Local Artist Will Spearhead Community Effort

Mary Thiefels grew up connected to the arts.  And it shows.  Thiefels, one of the newer members of the Chelsea Painters, will exhibit at the group’s annual Art Fair set for June 6, 7, on the grounds of Chelsea Community Hospital.

But her Chelsea art connections don’t end there.  The Ann Arbor native also is working in tandem with the Chelsea Center for the Arts on a community mural to celebrate Chelsea’s 175thanniversary. (more…)

The Ypsilanti - Community News

The new mural at the Corner Health Center, which stretches in vivid colors across the side of the building, depicts a diverse group of young people, including a small family, being positively involved in the world.

It is not unlike the mission of the Corner Health Center, a comprehensive medical center for people ages 12 to 21 and their children.  The center provides health services, education and support-all on a sliding fee scale if necessary. (more…)
